The other day I “had a moment”. You know what I mean by that? Yeah, I thought so. I was working on writing my blog about how to break your snooze button habit and the very next morning I hit the snooze button. Ha, yes. Ironic, right? Well, I didn’t laugh at the time. I “had a moment” instead.
At the time I thought, what kind of fraud are you, Sydney?? How do you expect to help other moms with daily self-care each morning if you’re not doing it yourself? How can you help someone stop hitting the snooze button if you just hit the snooze button? You shouldn’t even be doing this. [insert spiral here]. I sat with that for way too long before I pulled myself out.
Here’s the truth…
I’m just figuring it out.
I have bad days. I sleep in past my alarm. I struggle with the balance between work and family. I overthink. I eat cereal for dinner. I wear the same pants several days in a row. I use screen time to calm my kids. I forget to wash my face. I snap at my husband. My kids need their noses wiped. I have days were I don’t take care of myself. I scroll too long on Instagram. I get overwhelmed about silly things. I’ve been known to count down the minutes until nap time. My baseboards are filthy.
I am not an expert on self-care and morning routines, I just got a taste of something good and wanted to share it with the world in case it would help someone else. I am just figuring it out and sharing my experiences with you along the way — even if sharing scares the heck out of me and makes me feel all sorts of vulnerable most days.
I’m just figuring it out.
My hope is that when you read something from sydnord.com, get an email from syd.nord, or see something on @syd.nord it’s clear that I’m a work in progress.
I hope you’re inspired to practice daily, simplified self-care and I hope you’re inspired to try early mornings — it has truly changed my life for the better. But I also hope you remember that I’m figuring out what works for me and what’s right for me might not be right for you.
Aren’t we all just figuring it out?
We’re all trying to tackle the next challenge on our own personal journey.
Every one is just figuring it out.
